Financial Firm in Omaha, NE has an immediate 12 month+ contract opening for a Network Engineer II.
The Network Engineer II works at the highest systems level to provide advice and direction to users, management and IT project teams for systems that are complex in nature.
Description of Role and Responsibilities:
Evaluates new technologies and develops departmental standard practices.
Is able to engineer platform upgrades and large scale system integrations.
Is recognized as a technical leader within the department and organization, with emphasis on the network environment.
Has the ability to demonstrate breadth of knowledge across multiple areas of information technology.
Capable of being a key team member on strategic or enterprise-wide technology projects or issues.
This position will primarily focus on developing and implementing firewall policies on Juniper NetScreen firewalls. Secondarily it would be VIP creation and Content Switching setup. It could possibly include some shift and weekend work.
Skills and Experience
Required Skills:
? Knowledge and understanding of computer and network system requirements and standards.
? Knowledge and experience with TCP/IP networking, including most the following:
? Hardware: Cisco 2900, 4000, 6500, Nexus 7000, RSM, MSFC, SFM, 3600, 7200, ASR, PIX, ASA, Juniper Netscreen, Citrix Netscalers, and Riverbed Steelhead.
? Protocols: TCP/IP, HSRP/VRRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, SNMP, MPLS, Multicast, QoS, WCCP, and IPSEC
? Infrastructure: LAN, WAN, and MAN
? Network Management: Network Instruments Observer, Solarwinds Orion, BMC BCAN, and LogLogic Security Change
Prior Work Experience:
? Broad network systems administration experience within e-commerce or financial services industry.
? Tier II and on-call support experience for network systems and infrastructure.
? Experience troubleshooting network systems to include packet capture and protocol analysis.
? Experience as escalation point for resolving complex network problems requiring extended skills and extensive research.
? Experience working with vendor support organizations for configuration assistance, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
? Experience with administration, daily support and implementation services for all network infrastructures.
? Experience scheduling and implementing OS upgrades per established process inclusive of coordination with application development, platform engineering and quality assurance teams.
? Experience with the physical planning, scheduling and installation of new network devices
? Experience with standard incident management system to update incident tickets in a timely manner (creating, researching, referring, and closing).
? Experience working within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
? Experience working closely with other technical groups located locally and remotely
? Experience in coaching and knowledge transfer with peers,
? 3-5 years Cisco / Juniper specific experience
General Skills:
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
? Excellent computer skills necessary in Word, Excel, Presentation, Project and Visio.
? Understanding of project management methodologies and processes.
? Excellent time management and organizational skills.
? Ability to establish and define automated system installation/configuration procedures.
? Ability to maintain System Run Books and other documentation with updates and changes to day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting knowledgebase and processes and procedures that can assist other team members in maintaining the network
? Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply them towards the investigation of existing installations.
